"Only the Submissive Know"

KEY TEXT: Romans 13:1-10

NOTES:

Do You Want to Serve? Or, Do You Want To Be In Charge?

God is looking for servants who He can put in charge of things! If you want to be in charge without being a servant first, God cannot use you. Why? Because God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. The Lord has instructed me to talk to you about relationships recorded in the Bible and for us to look at ourselves and see how we measure up to His definition of these relationships within the areas of submission, authority, and responsibility.

First, let's look at God and man relationships.
I Corinthians 11:1-4; James 5:7-10; I Peter 5:5-11.

Secondly, man and man relationships.
Romans 13:1-4; I Peter 2:13-20; Colossians 3:19-25; I Corinthians 16:15-16; Hebrews 13:7-8, 17.

Thirdly, husband and wife relationships.
Ephesians 5:21-33; Colossians 3:18-19; I Peter 3:1-12.

Fourthly, and lastly, parents and children relationships.
Ephesians 6:1-4; Colossians 3:20-21.

I want to share two Biblical examples of authority, submission, and responsibility concerning God and His leaders that people got wrong and right. Numbers 12:1-4, 9-16; I Samuel 24:1-7, 10-15, 17-22; 26:7-12, 22-25.

I want to end with something that is very important: God is not interested in a human sense of "right" and "wrong" but God is only interested in whether we have a "right" or a "wrong" spirit. The Lord has taught me by experience that:

  1. We can be "right" with a wrong spirit and we are still "wrong"
  2. We can be "wrong with a "right" spirit and God can and will work it out for us or between us if we ask Him to
  3. We can be "wrong" with a "wrong" spirit and we are obviously "wrong"
  4. Lastly, we can be "right" with a "right" spirit and God will be glorified!

I will end with what I began with: Only the submissive know what God is doing or will do. King David and Jesus Christ are our primary examples. God Bless You to be a submissive servant in His Kingdom.

Amen!
