Who Do You Fear? The True God or Lesser False Gods!

KEY TEXT: Proverbs 9:10; Psalm 111:10; Proverbs 1:7

NOTES:

  1. The definition of the fear of the Lord involves recognizing God as the Number One “Being” or “Person” that you honour, respect, bow down to, worship, exalt, and give your all to 24 hours a day. Godly fear always involves worship and adoration for the only true God. Proverbs 9:10; Psalm 111:10; Proverbs 1:7
  2. The definition of the love of God is to keep His commandments. 1 John 5: 3.
  3. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, knowledge, and understanding! God desires to teach us how to fear Him and how to love Him! The fear of God and the love of God are two sides of the same coin of obedience. Why? Because if you fear God, you keep His commandments. Ecclesiastes 12:13-14. Also, if you love God, you keep His commandments. John 14:15.
  4. What we have to avoid is worshipping lesser gods on very high altars – e.g. ourselves, our habits, friends, family, pleasures ( e.g. holidays, ceremonies, events, televisions, computers, sports, music, etc.) The Israelites were famous for building other high places other than just going into the temple of God or just worshipping the true God at His altar. Psalm 81:6-16; II Chronicles 11:13-15; 16-17; 12:1-2; 15:11-15; 16-17; 20:33.
  5. In conclusion, we need to learn to walk in Godly fear and the love of God on a daily basis, Amen. 1 John 5:3; Ecclesiastes 12:13
